Overview of Heather Cottage
Heather Cottage is a welcoming New Forest holiday home sleeping eight in a peaceful setting just outside Brockenhurst. Open forest and paddock views surround the property, with ponies, donkeys and other New Forest livestock regularly passing nearby and walking and cycling routes accessible straight from the doorstep. See all of our cottages for group holidays in Brockenhurst here.
The sleeping arrangement is unusual and worth understanding before booking. The main house sleeps six across three bedrooms, including a flexible ground-floor super king that can be arranged as twins. Groups of seven or eight also book the self-contained garden annexe, which provides a fourth double bedroom and private shower room. This gives one couple or part of the family their own space while keeping everyone together at the same property.
Families have plenty to enjoy beyond the bedrooms. A separate lounge opens onto the garden, while the large kitchen diner incorporates another snug with a second log burner. There is also a dedicated playroom for children.
Outside, the large flat lawn overlooks neighbouring paddocks and includes a trampoline and seasonal above-ground swimming pool. A decked terrace provides space for meals and drinks, with sofas, loungers and a hammock for slower afternoons in the garden.
Brockenhurst is around a 20-minute walk away, bringing pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and the railway station within easy reach. Combined with direct forest access, Lymington and the coast a short drive away and plenty of family attractions throughout the New Forest, Heather Cottage offers an excellent base for an active group holiday.

Who is Heather Cottage Best For?
Heather Cottage is particularly well suited to two families or a multi-generational group who appreciate having one bedroom slightly separate from the main house.

The flexible ground-floor super king bedroom is another useful feature. It can be prepared as two full-size 3ft singles, allowing the main cottage to work for couples, children, teenagers or friends.
Families with younger children should also appreciate the playroom, trampoline and large lawn, while the seasonal pool becomes a significant extra attraction for summer stays.

Facilities & Information at Heather Cottage
Heather Cottage has several different spaces for a family group to spend time together. The separate lounge has comfortable seating, a Smart TV, DVD player and log-burning stove, with bi-fold doors opening onto the garden deck.
The open-plan kitchen diner is another major social space. A wooden dining table with benches seats eight, while the kitchen has a range cooker with electric ovens and gas hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave and DeLonghi coffee machine. Location & Things to Do Near Heather Cottage
Heather Cottage is particularly well positioned for experiencing the New Forest without needing to drive every time the group wants to head outdoors. Open forest lies beside the property, with walking and permitted cycle tracks leading through woodland, open lawns and heath where ponies, cattle and donkeys roam freely.
Brockenhurst itself is around a 20-minute walk away and makes an excellent base for exploring on foot or bicycle. A five-mile circular walk from the village passes grazed lawns, riverside woodland, Ober Water and open heath, while the wider National Park has more than 100 miles of waymarked cycle tracks. A predominantly off-road circular cycling route also links Brockenhurst with Lyndhurst.
The village provides cafés, pubs, independent food shops and restaurants, while Brockenhurst railway station makes car-free outings unusually easy. Trains connect directly with Lymington, Southampton and Bournemouth.
Lymington is a rewarding day out for its Georgian streets, Saturday market, marina and waterfront walks. From the harbour area, the Solent and Isle of Wight form a constant backdrop and sailing is a major part of local life.
Beaulieu offers one of the New Forest's biggest family attractions, combining the National Motor Museum with Palace House, the abbey, gardens and Little Beaulieu play area.
For a day beside the sea, Milford on Sea, Highcliffe and Avon Beach can all be reached in around 20 minutes by car. This combination of forest walks, cycling, family attractions, good food and coast gives groups plenty of variety while keeping the New Forest landscape at the heart of the holiday.
