Overview of Heathfield
Heathfield is a handsome Edwardian villa in one of Thurlestone's most appealing coastal positions, surrounded by nearly an acre of gardens and looking out towards Bolt Tail and the sweep of Bigbury Bay. One of the earlier houses built on the Yarmer estate, it has remained a much-loved family home for generations and still has the generous rooms and relaxed atmosphere of a traditional seaside house. Sleeping ten across five bedrooms, Heathfield is particularly well suited to extended families and groups who value space. The large sitting room looks across the gardens and opens onto a verandah, while the separate games room gives children and teenagers somewhere of their own for table tennis, games and quieter afternoons indoors.
The location is one of its strongest selling points. A gate from the grounds leads towards the golf course and coast, with Thurlestone Sands only a few minutes away. The village shop and pub are also around a five-minute walk, so families can enjoy much of their holiday without repeatedly getting into the car.
Upstairs, several bedrooms take advantage of the coastal outlook, and two open onto a shared balcony that is perfect for a morning coffee overlooking the gardens. Outside, the extensive lawns provide space for children and dogs to enjoy the fresh air while adults relax on the verandah.
With the beach, golf, tennis, coast path and village all close by, Heathfield is an excellent choice for groups who want a classic South Devon beach holiday in a substantial family house rather than a modern purpose-built rental.

Location & Things to Do Near Heathfield
Heathfield sits on Thurlestone's Yarmer estate, an excellent position for enjoying the beaches, golf and coastal paths of the South Hams. Much of what makes the area special can be reached directly from the house, so a large group does not need to organise every day around several cars.
Thurlestone Sands and Yarmer Beach are close by, giving families a choice of sandy coastline for swimming, rock pooling and relaxed beach days. South Milton Sands is a little farther along the coast and is one of the area's best-known National Trust beaches, with golden sand, rock pools and the natural arch of Thurlestone Rock just offshore.
The sheltered water at South Milton Sands is also popular for paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing. The South West Coast Path runs through the area, making it easy to combine a morning at the beach with a longer coastal walk.
Heading west, the coast path leads towards Bantham, with views across the River Avon and towards Burgh Island. The official Bantham and Thurlestone circular route is around 3.2 miles and combines beach, village and countryside scenery.
In the other direction, walkers can head past South Milton Sands towards Hope Cove. The former fishing village has two beaches, pubs and cafés, while the route around nearby Bolt Tail gives some superb views along the South Devon coastline.
Thurlestone Golf Club is virtually on the doorstep and occupies a striking position beside the sea. Tennis is also available locally, making Heathfield particularly appealing to active family groups.
Kingsbridge is approximately five miles away for supermarkets, shops and restaurants, while Salcombe is around seven miles away for sailing, harbour cruises, shopping and waterfront dining.
