Overview of Blue Shores

Blue Shores is a spacious detached holiday home for 12 in Thurlestone on the South Devon coast. The reverse-level design puts the main kitchen, dining and living areas on the first floor, where a full-width balcony and large windows make the most of the views towards Thurlestone Rock, Thurlestone Bay and Bolt Tail. Discover more large homes for group holidays in Thurlestone here.

The sleeping arrangement is spread across three floors. Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, including a family room sleeping four and a twin room. The first-floor snug doubles as another bedroom using a sofa bed, while two larger bedrooms occupy the second floor. This gives the property considerable flexibility, although the full 12-person arrangement is particularly well suited to families or mixed-age groups.

A separate playroom on the ground floor has table football and a dart board, providing useful entertainment away from the main lounge. Outside, lawns surround the property with enclosed areas to the front and rear, garden furniture, sun loungers, a barbecue and an outdoor shower for rinsing off after beach trips.

Thurlestone Beach is approximately ¾ mile away, while the village pub and shop are around ½ mile from the house. The South West Coast Path runs through the local area, with walks towards Bantham, South Milton Sands and Hope Cove.

Who is Blue Shores Best For?

Blue Shores works particularly well for large families or two families sharing a South Devon holiday. The combination of a four-person family room, twin room, flexible super-king room and separate snug used for sleeping gives plenty of options for adults, children and teenagers.

The full capacity of 12 does require use of both a pull-out single bed in the ground-floor family room and the double sofa bed in the first-floor snug. Groups made up entirely of adults may therefore want to look carefully at the sleeping arrangement rather than relying only on the headline capacity.

The property is also particularly suited to beach and walking holidays. Thurlestone's beaches, golf course, village pub and shop are close by, while the Coast Path makes it possible to walk towards Bantham, South Milton and Hope Cove without needing the car.

Why is Blue Shores a Great Large Holiday Cottage?

  • Sleeps up to 12 across five sleeping rooms with a flexible mix of double, twin and family accommodation.
  • Sea views extend across Thurlestone Bay towards Thurlestone Rock and Bolt Tail.

  • The first-floor lounge opens onto a full-width balcony with outside seating.
  • Large gardens include enclosed areas that are useful for children and dogs.
  • Thurlestone Beach is approximately ¾ mile away.
  • The village pub and shop are approximately ½ mile from the house.
  • The South West Coast Path provides excellent walking from the local area.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms at Blue Shores

Blue Shores has five sleeping rooms spread across three floors. The maximum capacity of 12 is more complex than the headline figure suggests, as one room uses a sofa bed and the ground-floor family bedroom includes a pull-out single bed.

Group Accommodation Layout

Bedroom Floor Bed Arrangement Bathroom Sleeps
Bedroom 1 Ground floor Bunk beds, single bed and pull-out single Family bathroom nearby 4
Bedroom 2 Ground floor Twin single beds Family bathroom nearby 2
Bedroom 3 / Snug First floor Double sofa bed Separate WC on same floor 2
Bedroom 4 Second floor King-size bed En-suite shower room 2
Bedroom 5 Second floor Super-king or twin beds En-suite shower room 2
Total   5 sleeping rooms 3 bathrooms 12

How does the layout work for a group of 12?

The two second-floor bedrooms provide conventional accommodation for four adults, with one king-size room and one super-king room that can be arranged as twins.

The ground floor has a conventional twin room plus a family bedroom sleeping four. This room combines bunk beds, a single bed and a further pull-out single.

The remaining two guests use the double sofa bed in the first-floor snug. When the property is occupied by all 12 guests, this means one of the secondary living spaces also becomes sleeping accommodation.

For that reason, Blue Shores is particularly well suited to families with children or teenagers. A group of six couples would have a rather different sleeping arrangement from a property offering six conventional double or twin bedrooms.

Bathroom Layout

The ground floor has a family bathroom with a bath and rainfall shower over.

Bedroom 4 on the second floor has its own en-suite shower room.

Bedroom 5 also has an en-suite walk-in shower room.

A separate WC and basin are provided on the first floor beside the main living space.

Facilities & Information at Blue Shores

The first-floor kitchen, dining room and lounge form the main social area. The kitchen includes twin ovens, an induction hob, fridge-freezer, separate drinks fridge, dishwasher, combination microwave oven and coffee machine. The dining table seats up to ten guests.

The lounge has a large corner sofa, Smart TV and access onto the full-width balcony. The fireplace is ornamental and cannot be used. The nearby snug has another large Smart TV, books and games, although this room becomes Bedroom 3 when the sofa bed is required.

On the ground floor, the separate games room has table football and a dart board. A utility room provides a washing machine, tumble dryer and sink, with an outdoor shower and wetsuit rack adding useful facilities after days at the beach.

Outside, the lawn surrounds much of the property. The front garden is enclosed with fencing and a gate, while there is another enclosed gated area at the rear. Garden furniture, two sun loungers and a charcoal barbecue are provided.
