Overview of Craiglands

Craiglands is a four-bedroom holiday cottage sleeping eight on Coronation Road, placing guests in an excellent central Salcombe location without being directly on the busiest waterfront streets. Island Street is just moments away, while Fore Street, Whitestrand Quay, restaurants, shops and the passenger ferry to East Portlemouth are all within a short walk. View more holiday cottages that sleep 8 in Salcombe here.

The house is particularly appealing for groups containing several adult couples because all four bedrooms provide double accommodation. The principal room has a king-size bed and private shower room, while the remaining three bedrooms each have a double bed. This makes Craiglands quite different from many eight-person family cottages where much of the capacity is provided through bunks or children's beds.

Downstairs, the accommodation has been arranged as an open-plan social space. The kitchen and dining area seats all eight guests together and opens through French doors to the garden, while the adjoining sitting area has generous seating for evenings at home.

The rear garden adds valuable outdoor space in central Salcombe, with contemporary furniture for meals and drinks outside during warmer weather. A private parking space for one car is another useful feature in a town where parking can be at a premium.

Craiglands is an especially good option for guests who want the freedom to leave the car behind. Salcombe's harbour, independent shops, cafés, restaurants, ferries and watersports are all accessible on foot, while sandy beaches can be reached either by walking or crossing the estuary by passenger ferry.

Who is Craiglands Best For?

Craiglands is particularly well suited to adult families, groups of friends and couples sharing because each of its four bedrooms has a permanent double or king-size bed.

Four couples can therefore stay without anyone needing to use a bunk, twin or sofa bed. Families with older children and teenagers who are happy to share double beds should find the layout equally straightforward.

The principal bedroom has its own shower room, while the main family bathroom includes both a freestanding bath and separate walk-in shower. Additional WCs on two floors help when all eight guests are staying.

The central location is another strong reason to choose Craiglands. Groups can walk into Salcombe for breakfast, shopping, dinner or drinks and use the passenger ferry to reach beaches on the opposite side of the estuary.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms at Craiglands

Craiglands sleeps eight across four bedrooms arranged over the first and second floors. Unlike many family cottages of this size, every bedroom provides double accommodation, with one king-size room and three conventional doubles.

This layout makes the house particularly useful for couples sharing or adult family groups.

Group Accommodation Layout

Area Bedroom Sleeping Arrangement Bathroom
First Floor Principal Bedroom 5ft king-size bed En-suite shower room
First Floor Bedroom 4 4ft 6in double bed Family bathroom
Second Floor Bedroom 2 4ft 6in double bed En-suite WC and basin
Second Floor Bedroom 3 4ft 6in double bed Family bathroom

The principal bedroom has a 5ft king-size bed, generous storage and a bay window. Its private en-suite has a shower cubicle, basin and WC.

Bedroom 4 has a 4ft 6in double bed and shares the main family bathroom.

Bedroom 2 is on the second floor and has a 4ft 6in double bed together with its own en-suite cloakroom containing a WC and basin.

Bedroom 3 has another 4ft 6in double bed.

How does the layout work for a group of 8?

Craiglands is particularly straightforward for four couples because every bedroom has a permanent double or king-size bed.

For an adult family group, parents, grandparents and adult children can each have their own double bedroom without anyone needing to use temporary sleeping arrangements.

Families travelling with younger children should bear in mind that there are no twin or bunk bedrooms, so the layout works best where children are comfortable sharing double beds.

The first-floor family bathroom has a freestanding bath, separate walk-in shower, basin and WC.

Location & Things to Do Near Craiglands

Craiglands is particularly well placed for enjoying Salcombe without depending on the car. Coronation Road sits close to Island Street, an area associated with Salcombe's boatbuilding heritage and now home to independent businesses, food and drink producers and watersports activity. Continue for a few minutes and the heart of the town opens up around Fore Street and the waterfront.

Salcombe itself is built around its estuary. Whitestrand Quay is a hub for passenger ferries, boat trips and water taxis, while sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding give groups several ways to explore beyond the streets of the town.

One of the easiest outings is the passenger ferry across to East Portlemouth. The service operates daily throughout the year and lands close to Small's Cove, with Mill Bay only a short walk further along the coast. These sandy beaches offer a quieter contrast to Salcombe town and can be combined with a section of the South West Coast Path towards Gara Rock.

On the Salcombe side, North Sands is a sheltered sandy beach within walking distance of the town and is popular for swimming and relaxed family beach days. Continue further to South Sands for another sandy beach, watersports hire and access to coastal walking towards Bolt Head and East Soar.

Walkers have excellent choices in both directions. The South West Coast Path crosses National Trust countryside around Bolt Head, Bolberry Down and East Soar, while crossing the estuary opens the route towards Mill Bay, Gara Rock and Prawle Point.

Kingsbridge, at the head of the estuary, provides a larger choice of shops and supermarkets, while the immediate advantage of Craiglands is that restaurants, cafés, harbour activity and beaches can occupy several days without moving the car at all.
