The scale of the communal accommodation is one of the property's biggest strengths. A traditional farmhouse kitchen combines an oil-fired Aga with conventional cooking facilities and a dining table for ten, making it a natural gathering place for long breakfasts and family meals. There is also a separate lounge arranged around a wood-burning stove and a striking galleried hall with high ceilings, exposed beams, an additional dining area and huge doors looking onto the garden.

Four bedrooms provide flexible sleeping for nine. A ground-floor king bedroom is useful for guests who prefer to sleep on the main level, while upstairs the master combines a king bed with a separate single. Another bedroom has a super king that can be divided into twins and the fourth twin room can be linked to create another super king.

Outside, Auton Court has enough space to become a destination in its own right. Lawns, gardens and a paddock extend across the grounds, while children have goal posts, a swing and slide. A six-person hot tub can also be booked as an optional extra.

Bedroom 3 has a 6ft super king-size bed that can be divided into two full-size 3ft singles when requested in advance. It has its own en-suite shower room.

How does the layout work for a group of 9?

The layout works particularly well for two families. Parents can take two of the larger double rooms, while children can use the twin arrangement and the additional single in the master bedroom.

For an adult group, Bedrooms 3 and 4 can each be configured either as a super king or twins, making the sleeping arrangements much easier to adapt to couples and friends.

Storage and laundry capacity are equally generous. The utility room has another large fridge, chest freezer, drinks fridge, washing machine, tumble dryer and a large dog crate.

The separate lounge provides a cosier setting, with sofas and armchairs gathered around the wood-burning stove together with a Smart TV and DVD player. The galleried hall provides another impressive social area, with high ceilings, exposed beams, additional dining space and large glazed doors looking over the grounds.

Location & Things to Do Near Auton Court

Auton Court sits in peaceful South Hams countryside only a few minutes from Kingsbridge, giving groups a quieter rural base without sacrificing access to the coast. Kingsbridge itself sits at the head of the Salcombe and Kingsbridge Estuary and is useful for independent shops, cafés, restaurants and everyday supplies. The waterfront also provides opportunities for kayaking and paddleboarding, while local walking routes explore both the town and surrounding countryside.

Beach choice is one of the biggest advantages of staying here. South Milton Sands is around four miles from Kingsbridge and combines golden sand with rock pools and clear water. The sheltered bay is popular for swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing, and the South West Coast Path runs directly through the site.

Continue along the coast to Thurlestone for more sandy beaches and views of the distinctive Thurlestone Rock. Hope Cove offers two beaches, places to eat and a traditional seaside village atmosphere. It is also an excellent starting point for coast-path walks towards Bolt Tail, South Milton and the more rugged coastline towards Salcombe.

Salcombe is within approximately five miles of Auton Court and makes an easy day or evening out. The town combines independent shopping and restaurants with sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking and passenger ferries across the estuary to East Portlemouth.

Walkers have plenty of choice away from the beaches too. Local routes include a 3.5-mile Kingsbridge to Bowcombe Creek walk and longer circuits through the South Devon National Landscape. Further west, the Bantham to Thurlestone route combines beaches, dunes and coastal scenery over approximately 3.5 miles.

With Kingsbridge, sandy beaches, watersports and coast-path walking all close by, Auton Court gives a group plenty of variety while retaining the privacy of a country farmhouse.
