Overview of Pond House
Pond House is all about being beside the sea. Set in Bigbury-on-Sea and only around 50 metres from the beach, it gives families the freedom to head onto the sand for an early swim, return home for lunch and be back beside the water again without packing the car or organising a full day out. View all of our large houses for group holidays in Bigbury-on-Sea here.
Sleeping ten across five bedrooms, the house is particularly well suited to large family holidays. Two ensuite double bedrooms sit on the entrance level, while three further bedrooms upstairs provide a double, twin and bunk room. The bunk arrangement means the property is limited to a maximum of nine adults, making Pond House especially suitable for groups that include children.
The first floor makes the most of the coastal setting. The kitchen looks towards the sea, while the large lounge opens directly onto a wraparound balcony with uninterrupted views across Bigbury Bay. A separate dining room seats the whole group for meals together.
Outside, the balcony, terraces and patio give guests several different places to relax throughout the day. There is outdoor dining for ten and a built-in stone barbecue, so summer evenings can be spent at the house with the sea still very much part of the view.
Bigbury Beach, Burgh Island and the South West Coast Path are all immediately accessible, while Bantham, Thurlestone and Hope Cove are within easy reach. For families looking for a large South Devon holiday home where the beach genuinely is on the doorstep, Pond House is exceptionally well placed.

Location & Things to Do Near Pond House
Pond House sits in an exceptional position at Bigbury-on-Sea, one of the South Hams' classic beach destinations. The sand is only around 50 metres away, so swimming, rock pooling and beach days can easily become part of everyday life rather than something that needs planning.
Bigbury Beach is broad and sandy, with shallow water and plenty of space when the tide is out. The bay is also popular for surfing and windsurfing, while local tuition makes it possible for beginners to get onto the water during their stay.
Burgh Island dominates the view offshore and is one of the area's best-known landmarks. At low tide, visitors can simply walk across the sandy causeway. When the tide covers the beach, the famous sea tractor provides another way across. Once on the island, guests can walk to the summit for far-reaching coastal views or stop at the historic Pilchard Inn.
Walkers are equally well served. A short exploration around Burgh Island is easy to fit into a beach day, while longer sections of the South West Coast Path lead through some of South Devon's most attractive coastal scenery.
One excellent option is the circular walk through Ringmore, returning along the cliffs past Ayrmer Cove and Challaborough. More ambitious walkers can use the seasonal Avon ferry to cross towards Bantham and continue along the coast towards Thurlestone, Hope Cove and eventually Salcombe.
Bantham is also worth visiting in its own right for surfing, its broad sandy beach and views back towards Burgh Island. Kingsbridge offers shops, restaurants and supermarkets, while Salcombe provides sailing, boat trips and waterfront dining.
For guests at Pond House, however, the main attraction is having one of South Devon's finest stretches of coastline just beyond the front door.
