Overview of 1 Ivy Cove

1 Ivy Cove has the sort of setting that makes the location itself a major part of the holiday. The former coastguard cottage sits high above Lannacombe Bay on one of the quieter stretches of the South Devon coast, with open sea views from the house and beaches almost directly below.

Sleeping eight across three bedrooms, it works particularly well for families. Two double bedrooms occupy the first floor, while the top-floor bedroom sleeps four with two single beds and a set of full-size bunks. Children and teenagers can therefore share their own floor, leaving the doubles for adults.

Downstairs, the spacious lounge and dining room looks across the bay and has a log burner for cooler evenings. The separate kitchen also enjoys a sea view, while a dedicated games room with table tennis gives the group something extra to enjoy after the beach or when the weather turns.

Outside, 1 Ivy Cove has its own seating area beside the cottage as well as access to the wider grounds shared by the neighbouring coastguard cottages. A gate leads towards Ivy Cove below, while Lannacombe Beach is only a few minutes away.

The South West Coast Path passes alongside the cottages, opening up excellent walks towards East Prawle, Prawle Point and Start Point.

For groups who value dramatic scenery, quiet beaches and walking straight from the door more than shops and busy resort facilities, 1 Ivy Cove is a memorable South Devon retreat.

Location & Things to Do Near 1 Ivy Cove

1 Ivy Cove sits on one of the wildest and least developed sections of the South Devon coast, between East Prawle and Start Point. The setting is very different from staying in Salcombe or Dartmouth, with beaches, cliffs and open countryside taking centre stage.

Lannacombe Beach is only a few minutes from the cottage. At lower tide there is a good stretch of sand along with shallow rock pools, making it a lovely choice for swimming, surfing and family beach days. Ivy Cove itself lies directly below the coastguard cottages and adds to the feeling of having this stretch of coastline almost on the doorstep.

The South West Coast Path passes beside the property. Head west and the route leads towards East Prawle and Prawle Point, Devon's most southerly point. The surrounding headlands are excellent for birdwatching as well as walking, particularly during spring and autumn migration.

Walking east takes you towards Start Point, one of the most dramatic headlands in South Devon. Its lighthouse has guided shipping since the 19th century and opens for guided tours on selected dates. The route also passes secluded beaches and rugged stretches of cliff.

Hallsands and Beesands are nearby for another day on the coast. Hallsands is known for the remains of the fishing village lost to the sea, while Beesands has a long beach and places to stop for food and drink.

For larger shops, cafés and restaurants, Kingsbridge is approximately nine miles away. Salcombe and Dartmouth can also be reached for sailing, boat trips and busier days around the water.
