Overview of Bayview
Bayview is a spacious seafront holiday home sleeping eight in Portwrinkle, a small fishing village at the western end of Whitsand Bay near to Downderry in south-east Cornwall. Its elevated, upside-down design places the main living accommodation on the first floor, where large windows and the adjoining terrace take full advantage of the sweeping coastal views. See our full range of large holiday homes in Downderry here.
The open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining room is where the whole group can spend time together, with seating for eight at the dining table and direct access onto the sea-facing deck. Outside, guests can eat in the fresh air, relax on sun loungers or use the private hot tub while looking towards the coast.
Families also gain considerably more space than a conventional four-bedroom cottage might offer. One rumpus room is on the ground floor with a television and games, while a second glazed room is tucked into the loft and reached by a spiral staircase. Children and teenagers therefore have their own places to relax without taking over the main living room.
Four bedrooms occupy the ground floor, including a super king and king with private wet rooms, a twin and a bunk room. The sleeping arrangement is designed for a maximum of six adults and two children.
Portwrinkle's beaches are only moments away, the South West Coast Path passes through the village and Whitsand Bay Golf Club is around five minutes away on foot. Add Looe, Polperro and the Rame Peninsula for longer outings and Bayview becomes an excellent large holiday home for a group wanting coast, walking and plenty to enjoy at the property itself.

Who is Bayview Best For?
Bayview is particularly well suited to families because its maximum occupancy is six adults and two children. The bunk bedroom provides the dedicated children's sleeping space, while the super king, king and twin accommodate the remaining six guests.
For two families sharing, the super king and king bedrooms are natural choices for parents, leaving the twin and bunk room for four children or teenagers.
The two rumpus rooms add another major advantage for a mixed-age group. One provides a ground-floor television and games space, while the glazed loft room gives older children or teenagers another place to relax.
Walkers, surfers and golfers should also appreciate the location. Two beaches, the South West Coast Path and Whitsand Bay Golf Club are all close enough to reach on foot.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms at Bayview
Bayview sleeps eight across four ground-floor bedrooms. The arrangement combines a super king, king, twin and bunk room, with occupancy restricted to a maximum of six adults and two children.
The two largest bedrooms each have their own en-suite wet room, while the twin and bunk bedroom use the main family bathroom.
Group Accommodation Layout
| Bedroom | Sleeping Arrangement | Bathroom |
|---|---|---|
| Master Bedroom | Super king-size bed | En-suite wet room |
| Bedroom 2 | King-size bed | En-suite wet room |
| Bedroom 3 | Twin 3ft single beds | Family bathroom |
| Bedroom 4 | 3ft bunk beds | Family bathroom |
The master bedroom has a 6ft super king-size bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and television. Its en-suite wet room has a large walk-in shower, WC and basin.
Bedroom 2 has a 5ft king-size bed with wardrobe and chest of drawers, together with another private wet room.
Bedroom 3 contains two full-size 3ft single beds, making it suitable for adults, teenagers or children.
Bedroom 4 has full-width 3ft bunk beds and forms the dedicated children's sleeping space within the eight-person occupancy.
How does the layout work for a group of 8?
For two families sharing, parents can take the super king and king bedrooms, while four children or teenagers use the twin and bunk rooms.
A multi-generational family could use the super king, king and twin bedrooms for six adults, leaving the bunk room for two children.
The maximum adult occupancy of six is important when planning the group, so Bayview is much better suited to family holidays than four adult couples.
Bathroom Layout
The super king bedroom has its own large en-suite wet room with walk-in shower, WC and basin.
The king bedroom has a second private wet room with shower, WC and basin.
The twin and bunk bedrooms share the family bathroom, which has a large Jacuzzi bath, separate shower, WC and basin.
Facilities & Information at Bayview
Bayview's main living accommodation occupies the first floor, allowing the sea views to become a major feature of the room. Two large sofas and a pouffe provide space to relax in front of the television, while an Amazon Echo is available for music.
The adjoining dining area has a large round table seating all eight guests. The kitchen includes a gas hob and oven, large fridge freezer, microwave and dishwasher, giving families everything needed for meals at home.
A spiral staircase rises from this level to a fully enclosed glazed loft rumpus room furnished with large lounging cushions. Downstairs, a second split-level rumpus room has another television and games, providing useful alternatives to the main living area.
The sea-facing decked terrace is one of Bayview's strongest features, with an outdoor dining table, chairs, sun loungers and the private hot tub. Location & Things to Do Near Bayview
Portwrinkle is a tiny coastal village at the western end of Whitsand Bay, giving Bayview an excellent position for a holiday centred on beaches, walking and the sea. The village has two main coves separated by its little harbour, with rock pools appearing between them as the tide retreats.
Finnygook Beach is the larger stretch of sand and shingle and is popular with experienced surfers as well as families. Hoodny Cove lies on the other side of the harbour and provides another beach within easy walking distance. A café close to the shore makes it easy to spend much of the day locally without needing to drive.
The South West Coast Path passes through Portwrinkle and gives walkers access to some of south-east Cornwall's most dramatic scenery. Head west towards Looe for high cliffs, coves and broad coastal views, or east along Whitsand Bay towards Tregantle and eventually the Rame Peninsula. A circular Whitsand Bay route also passes through nearby Crafthole and by the historic Finnygook Inn.
Golfers have Whitsand Bay Golf Club within around five minutes' walk, providing the unusual opportunity to leave the car at Bayview and walk to a round with coastal scenery close at hand.
Looe is around ten miles away and adds a lively fishing harbour, sandy beach, independent shops and plenty of places to eat fresh seafood. Continue further along the coast for Polperro, where narrow streets descend towards a picturesque fishing harbour.
For a different day out, Mount Edgcumbe combines more than 800 acres of parkland, formal gardens, woodland and coastal trails. From nearby Cremyll, visitors can also cross the Tamar by ferry into Plymouth. Together with St Germans and the countryside around the Lynher Valley, these options give groups plenty to explore beyond the immediate beaches.
